Why modern robots are deaf?

In every sci-fi movie, robots and systems with AI have a sense of hearing. Whether the robots are humanoid robots, like T2000 in The Terminator, flying cars like in The Fifth Element or the squiddyhuman hunting sentinels like in the Matrix trilogy, they all have something essential in common: they can hear.
